Why does Anchor Point have Small Groups?
First, small groups seem to have been a part of the church since it began 2000 years ago! Acts 2:46 says, "They worshiped together at the Lord's temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity..." These early Christians not only met as a large group to worship, but also as small groups in homes to fellowship.
Second, small groups are important to us because we want every person at Anchor Point Church to form meaningful friendships with other people from church. Sunday mornings are a time for worship and learning as a large group. Even with the refreshments after the service, there just isn't enough time to form deep friendships. Small groups are the best place for developing real relationships.
Third, we do small groups because they help people grow spiritually. Our groups focus on helping each other apply the Bible to every day life. Having friends who encourage and pray for you is a great recipe for growth!
Finally, we love small groups because they're FUN! This is a great opportunity to develop terrific friendships that carry throughout your life. It's not unusual for those involved in small groups together to willingly spend time socially together as well doing things like boating, or game night or going to concerts. We encourage you to try it out!
